Lake Lure boasts beauty, tranquility, adventure, and history. Located twenty-five miles southeast of Asheville and about an hour and a half north of Greenville, South Caroling, the Town of Lake Lure sits in the heart of the Hickory Nut Gorge. The Town is home to over 1,050 permanent residents many of which began as tourists and were drawn to stay. The 720-acre lake is the main attraction and the reason so many visit Lake Lure each year. The Town of Lake Lure is a great locale for sport enthusiasts. You can enjoy a wide variety of activities including swimming, golfing, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, fishing, and water skiing.

Several areas of Lake Lure were used in the filming of the 1987 classic, Dirty Dancing. You can visit the Lake Lure Inn & Spa and stay in the same rooms that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey stayed in during filming. The golf scenes in the movie were filmed on the 16th hole at Bald Mountain Golf Course of the Rumbling Bald Resort. The Esmerelda Inn is home to the original dance floor upon which Johnny and Baby shared their final dance. Each year, hundreds of visitors flock to the two-day Dirty Dancing Festival to pay homage to one of the most iconic movies of our time.
